A Graduate of the Upper Austrian University of Applied Sciences (Dipl. Ing. (FH) in Media Technologies and Design). I am currently in the process of finishing up my PhD thesis on the topic of "Groupware support in the windowing system".
The foundation of my research work is the lack of software that allows users gathered around a single computer to collaborate. Specialised solutions exist, but are usually limited in functionality. After some research, it was found that the windowing system which provides a single cursor only is the limiting factor. MPX (Multi-Pointer X) is a modification of the X.Org distribution of the X Window System and allows users to add additional cursors and keyboard foci on the fly. MPX supports both standard X applications as well as applications written to support multi-user interaction. This allows collaboration and two-handed interaction anywhere on the desktop, with any application.
